(Nearly) Wordless Wednesday: For the Love of the Beach

We have just returned from our annual family trip for a week and a half on lounging, eating, thrifting, eating, sunbathing and eating on the coast of Lake Huron in the nice town of Oscoda.

This year was slightly different than years past in that we went for longer than a weekend at a time and that it ended up being only the girls as our other family members didn’t make it up this time.

We even got to spend two days together as a family when Michael came up for Father’s Day weekend. It was really great to see him relaxing and not stressed about work. Though he certainly did check his store on more than one occasion.

But those times, when it was just him and his girl on the beach were so incredibly precious. Cedella especially enjoyed walking all the way out into the lake with her Daddy. It’s shallow for quite a ways out so it’s really pretty for little ones.

The weather was lovely. The food was plentiful. The jigsaw puzzles and board games were fun. The thrift stores were Amazing.

But the beach? The beach was probably the highlight of the trip. If only to see the look on my girls faces when they took in the water and the sand and the beauty of one of the Great Lakes.

Lake Huron is notoriously cold, not as bad as Superior, but WAY worse than Michigan. But that did not stop any of us from taking the plunge and shivering with delight afterwards.

My sweet Monk is such a water baby that to get her out of the water and away from the sand was next to impossible.

Doesn’t she look like a little surfer girl?

Even Izzie got in on the act as she felt the sand squish beneath her little baby toes for the first time.

I mean, look at those toes…

The water was really chilly that day and the storm clouds started rolling in just as we got to the beach but that didn’t stop my sweet Nugget from enjoying the new experience.

My sister Kylara, better known as Auntie Ky La La, was such a trooper. She suffered buckets of cold lake water on her head, and countless shouts of “around and around again” or “let’s do it again!”.

But really we know she loved it cause she has always been a water baby herself and never met a pool or body of water she didn’t love.

And my sister, TeTe, really enjoyed hanging out with her nieces at the beach.

Me? Well, I’m a beach bum. I love to go out, throw down a towel and just lay there for hours. Doesn’t this just look so inviting?

Though lounging is not even remotely possibly with one, let alone two children though. But I got some lounge time with Izzie.

Who got some nap time of her own.

And got to play with both of my girls quite a bit.

While our winters in Michigan may be crazy cold it’s worth for our beautiful summers.

Nothing like a couple of cold ones with Lake Huron as your view. (Especially my new fav Sam Adams Porch Rocker…delicious).
