To say Wednesday was a tough day is an understatement. In fact it kind of put my whole Week in My Life into a tail spin.
The morning began at 7am with a text message from Yahoo alerting me that I was trying to retrieve my password. Unless I was sleep-mailing (SO not) someone was rotten in Denmark.
So I went ahead and opened my email, only to be greeted by 7 charges at $50 each to Google Play charged to my debit card. And two more pending authorization. What. The. Fuck.
I called my credit union immediately and the super helpful guy on the phone put an immediate hold on the account, cancelled my card and flagged the suspicious activity. Before I had hung up the phone their Visa fraud department was calling on the other line.
To say I Heart My Credit Union is an understatement.
Good news? I could go into any branch that day and get a new card.
Bad news? No one could tell me if the charges had actually cleared or not and whether or not I would have to file an affidavit of fraud before the funds could be returned to my account. Ugh.
Michael left early to attend the funeral of the dear sweet mother of one of his childhood friends. We really tried to work it out so that I could go too but it was about a three hour drive and we didn’t have any to open the store AND watch the girls so he went with a friend, his dad opened the store and I stayed with the girls.
Cedella was greeted with a special surprise that morning the new Tinkerbell movie Secret of the Wings. It came in handy because both girls were enraptured by it while I took a shower, picked out clothes, got everyone dressed and the diaper bag packed.
Since I didn’t have to work after all we went to our La Leche League meeting. Though by the time we got downstairs it was already 10am. So we grabbed the breakfast of champions for the road.
And arrived. Late as usual.
Last year during WIML I attended my first meeting. A year later I feel like I’ve always been there. Mary Ann, Alexis and Kristy are more than the leaders, they are great friends. I just love the Q&A sessions, like today’s meeting was, cause any and everything does and will get asked. But I also love the series meetings, if only to go and offer support to other new moms in their breastfeeding journeys.
The only problem with today’s meeting was that my sweet Monk was being a total jerk. She was bossing all the other kids around, taking things out of babies hands and whining. I kept having to pull her aside and talk with her, which seemed to have little to no effect. I really should have just left, she obviously wasn’t in a social mood, but selfishly I was really enjoying talking with other grownups and decided to stay for a while longer.
Well at least Izzie was having a ball.
After the meeting we had to run to the Goodwill to get a couple of items for our Halloween costumes (Farmer shirt and red leggings? Check.).
It turned out to be a really quick and pretty silly run through the store. Though I’ve never been to this particular one, I will definitely be back, it was packed with great stuff.
Once our whirlwind shopping was over we headed home for lunch and naptime. Cedella fell asleep in the car, confirming why she was so mean at the meeting, so Izzie and I were alone for lunch.
Leftover soup and a grilled cheese sammy. SO good. Even with fake cheese on it. Delicious.
While Cedella slept, Izzie played and I attempted to check email, read blogs and straighten up. Yea, not a lot of that gets done when you have a 7 month old that puts everything in her mouth. Oh well. It was nice to be alone with the baby for a while just watching her explore things.
Once everyone was up and ready we headed out to the bank.
Every single employee of the branch was super friendly and helpful, so different from every other bank I’ve ever been too. Though they still didn’t have any more answers for me, they made the process painless. And though it took almost an hour, we left with a new debit card and an armful of Dora stickers. Thankfully both girls were super patient and well behaved.
After we left the bank we go on the road to Detroit. Stopping at Mickey D’s for a Happy Meal for Ella since she missed lunch and a giant Coke for me, cause I needed it!
Over the past two weeks there have been dozens of random shootings along the highway from Lansing to Detroit. They’ve been happening at random times and though there’s a suspect the shootings continue, so driving that stretch is harrowing to say the very least. I drove about 80 the whole time hoping that by going faster I wouldn’t be an easy target. Makes sense, right?
The last Wednesday of the month is dedicated to my lovely and amazing friends at the Hazel Park Library Book Club. (Bobbi if you’re reading this we SO need a better name!)
I helped create the group 7 years ago and it has been going and growing ever since. Our numbers have gone from 6 original members to over 25 at one point, there are a core group of about 16 ladies (and one gentleman) that are dedicated and loyal readers and great friends.
This month’s book was Once Upon a River by Bonnie Jo Campbell. It was a great read (though I didn’t quite finish it) but this month’s discussion was really calm and tame in comparison to every other meeting we’ve ever had. Usually we’re all talking over each other, laughing, hollering across the table and sex comes up at least 20 times.
I blame this all on Louise going and getting herself hitched. (Just kidding Louise, happiness looks lovely on you
)
And I blame my children (who were relatively well behaved throughout the meeting) for the lack of a picture of the group. I had my camera out and was totally distracted.
So after the meeting Cedella met my old co-worker Nana’s daughter Amelia. And those two girls were ridiculously cute together.
After having a blast playing, my Mom helped me get the girls in their jammies and we loaded them into the car for another terrifying drive back home.
And yes, I drove over an hour to Detroit for my book club, through a shooting zone, only to turn around and drive back a few hours later. THAT’S how much I love my book club. (In fairness I will also take any chance I can to see my Mom).
After we got home we were all hungry so Michael made us a frozen pizza
and then it was off to bed for my babies…and as it turns out, me.
I woke up at 2am on the edge of the bed, fully dressed with Isora softly snoring in my ear. I feel asleep putting her to sleep. Guess I needed it.
Looking forward to reading about everyone else’s Wednesday! Hope it was better than mine!! lol
And check out Adventuroo for more Week in My Life posts!!
