Why Bacon?

So the site is about babies who eat bacon and the mothers that love them, right? Well…sort of.

When I found out I was pregnant with my first child I had no idea what to expect and to be honest I was more than a little bit freaked out. I didn’t know that I would feel like puking 20 hours a day. I didn’t think that I would go to sleep by 9pm. Every. Single. Night. And I had no idea that my pretty mediocre attraction to bacon would turn into an all out love affair.

Within my first two months of pregnancy my craving for bacon became insatiable. I needed bacon to be included in anything that went into my mouth. I imagined my Little Critter in the womb asking begging pleading for just one more piece and she would stop kicking me in the ribs. Yes, me and my unborn child were in negotiations over the amount of salty, greasy, delicious pork I would ingest.

There were many bacon sandwiches, bacon cheeseburgers, bacon pastas and pancakes with bacon. But there was also Apple Pie with Bacon (delicious) and Mo’s Milk Chocolate and Bacon bars (and later Sugar Shack Cupcakes). I’ve even made Bacon Jam. Imagine THAT on your toast in the morning. Brilliant.

As it turns out my love for all things bacon has returned with Baby #2. But my arteries are thankful that it’s not nearly as intense a love affair as the last go-round.

In all honesty bacon sums up all the things that the best things in life can be. There’s something so familiar and comforting about bacon. It’s sinful, decadent, but also homely and simple. Bacon can be dressed up or dressed down. Bacon can be chewy or crunchy. Bacon can be sweet or savory. Bacon is just what every meal needs to bump it up to orgasmic levels.

Yes…I’m still quite passionate about the stuff. Cause without my babies and a side of bacon, life would really lose it’s luster.

Monk @ 2 months with her first piece of Bacon. And no…she didn’t eat it.
